May Day Celebrations - 5th May 2019

  • The May Day festivities mark the celebration of the arrival of Summer and the beginning of the new holiday.  The PARADE: Muster at the Pier carpark at 11am for an 11.30am start.

    There will be free workshops earlier in the year at Pip & Jim’s Community hall for anyone who wishes to get properly into the spirit of Mayday—Mask making and Bunting Giants

The Scrumpy Run - 12th May 2019

The Scrumpy Run is organised by the Vintage Motor Cycle Club - Devon Section when some 40 or so riders set off at 11am and return at approximately 1 pm where the bikes are then displayed for you to see. read more...

Bands on the Band Stand - June - August 2019

Every summer Ilfracombe presents a series of Sunday afternoon performances on The Bandstand in Runnymede Gardens on The Seafront.

Performances are from 2pm to 4pm. There is some seating although some prefer to sit on the grass. These performances are sponsored by local businesses and organisations and are therefore totally free

The Big Lunch - 2nd June 2019

  • In 2019 The Big Lunch will take place across the UK in June and in Ilfracombe the event will take the form of a street party with entertainment in Fore Street which will be closed to traffic for the day. The event is being organised by The Friends of Fore Street, a community organisation based in and around Fore Street with the aim to raise the profile of Ilfracombe's oldest street.Starting at one o'clock and continuing throughout the afternoon and into the evening, outside the Prince of Wales and the George and Dragon. There will be food, fun, and music from our talented local performers. Everyone is welcome; just bring along some food to share.

Woolacombe 10K Beach Run - 16th June 2019

Organised by the Compass Rotary Club of Ilfracombe.

The course follows the beach up to Putsborough, then a short up-hill section takes runners to the track heading towards Marine Drive. From there a path through the dunes takes the runners back to the beach, for the return leg to the finish.

There are prizes/trophies and all money raised from the event will be donated to the British Heart Foundation - who will also provide a ‘warm up session’.

Grand Victorian & Steampunk Festival - 15th-24th June 2019

Coordinated by a group of volunteers who enjoy re-enacting the Victorian Age, in costume, dance, song and spectacle. Fundraising throughout the year to produce a programme with a little bit of everything from the sublime to the unusual, from Bathing Belles to a Celebration Ball, Grand Parades and Tea Parties.The final weekend welcomes Steampunks from near and far to join in the celebrations with a more fun and unusual twist focusing on the historical elements of Science Fiction. With live music, tea duelling, fireworks and more all against the stunning Victorian backdrop of Ilfracombe Town. Young or old Ilfracombe Victorian Week is a celebration to participate and enjoy.

The North Devon AONB Marathon & Half Marathon - 30th June 2019

The North Devon AONB Marathon and Half Marathon has quickly established itself as one of the most challenging and visually stunning events in the UK. Ilfracombe Gig Regatta - June 2019

The club has a mix of rowers that allows them to enter Youth, Mens, Ladies, Vets and Super Vets teams. 

During the summer they train Monday to Thursday and on Sundays. In the winter training takes place at the weekends.

All Things Morris - 12th-14th July 2019

Each day of the weekend has a major event and there will also be other themed events taking place around the town. On both Saturday and Sunday there will be Morris dancing around the seafront and harbour from Morris sides who are visiting not just from around the area but from across the UK.

Lundy Yacht Race - 20th July 2019

  • 50 mile race starting at 8am from Ilfracombe to and around Lundy Island. Now in its fourteenth year, a vigorous and exhilarating day's sailing is anticipated. The registration of the yachts will start in January. Its popularity means that places are limited. Will you be joining us on the starting line?…..

    In 2017 saw 46 boats setting off. The yachts were divided into three classes and 30 of them completed the 45 mile challenge within the 12 hour time limit. The quickest in just 6 hours 20 minutes.

North Devon Show - 7th August 2019


  • The North Devon Show is THE premier agricultural spectacle in the region and has something for everyone.

    There are classes for Alpacas, Beef & Dairy Cattle, Sheep, Horse Showing Classes & Show Jumping as well as Pony Club Games and Young Handler Competitions. There is also an Open Dog Show & Poultry Display plus a wide variety of Trade Stands including a Food Hall and Crafts & Gifts Marquee. There will be demonstrations in the Rural Skills and Country Pursuits arenas, Vintage Cards & Tractors, The North Devon WI Summer Competition and Young Farmers Rally.

Devon Street Food Festival - August 2019

South West Birdman - 3rd August 2019

The South West Birdman Competition sees crazy aviators and would-be pilots hurl themselves off Ilfracombe Pier into the icy waters below - all hoping to "fly" the furthest and be crowned champion of the event.

  • Organised by registered charity Ilfracombe Round Table, the day-long event attracts thousands of people to the town and raises money for local worthy causes.

    As well as the main flying event, the South West Birdman Competition will also play host to a day long music festival, food stalls, an ale and cider festival, artisan market and children's entertainment.

  • Carnival Procession - An eclectic mix of floats will keep you entertained for an evening. This spectacular event raises monies for local charities and is a fun night for all the family.

    Road closure is at 18:00 prompt.

    Route: Parade leaves Hillsborough (Swimming Pool) car park at 6pm, travels along Hillsborough Road, Portland Street, High Street, Church Street, turns right at Wilder Road along the Seafront, down St James Place arriving on Broad Street at approximately 8pm.

Mini Madness - August 2019

Mini cars, all different, create an amazing spectacle at the end of the Annual Grand Tour. The Grand Tour brings the locals out in their thousands into the streets to watch the Minis go by. It takes about 15/20 minutes for all the Minis to clear an area, one after the other. The event takes in some fantastic countryside and has some breathtaking stopping points. The final resting place is Ilfracombe and what a sight to behold, not to be missed.

Sea Ilfracombe Maritime Festival - 31st August &1st September 2019

The main festival hub is based in the Ropery Road car park, spreading down to the harbour and beyond to many of the pubs, eateries, galleries and venues all around the seafront.

Centre stage is the music - a packed programme of local and national bands from traditional Shanty songs to SKA and rock 'n roll surrounded by sizzling seaside kitchen with stalls offering seafood and local produce; sweet & savoury and a seafood preparation and cooking master class. read more...

Ilfracombe Bike Show - 9th September 2019

The North Devon Motorcycle Action group held this popular event which is staged along the front near the Landmark Theatre.  Motorcyclists travelled from near and far. Some local, some from as far as Coventry. Over 250 motorcycles lined the promenade and competed for 9 hand crafted glass trophies made by Dartington Crystal.  read more...

Combe Crawlers Run - November 2019

This event takes runners across country, down valleys and up hills towards Combe Martin, returning via Watermouth & Hele. The start and finish point is the Ilfracombe Academy.
  • The race is in November with an 11am start. 8.5 miles long and registration on the day is £16 on the day. There will be a T shirt for all finishers and prizes in each category.

Combe Christmas 22nd - 24th November 2019

Lighting of the lights switch on will start when the lantern parade arrives at the war memorial. This year's parade will start from The Candar and along the High St and thanks to Carol Turner and her team of elves, the lantern parade will be bigger and better than ever! Once again there will be lots of chances to sing some festive tunes, you can meet Santa and the tree which will look extra twinkly this year will be blessed by Father John Roles. Following the light switch on, you are encouraged to meander through the High Street, popping in to the many fantastic shops many of whom will be open for late night shopping and mince pies! read more...
