illfracombe

Hele Bay to Ilfracombe

Easily reachable from our holiday park, simply pick up the coastal path in Hele. This walk takes in Ilfracombe's Hillsborough Nature Reserve, known locally as 'The Sleeping Elephant.' You’ll walk along a section of coast teeming with seabirds in the summer and past the quaint Rapparee Cove— a ladies' bathing beach in Victorian days.

Ilfracombe to Combe Martin

The views from this walk are far reaching and spectacular, taking in Little Hangman and Great Hangman. Great Hangman is the highest sea cliff in the country, standing tall at a huge 1,043 feet. This walk isn’t a mellow one, but one of the most rewarding on the entire north section of the South West Coast Path.

Heddon’s Mouth

This is a chilled out riverside walk through woods, leading to a pebbly beach. In spring you’ll pass emerald glades and swathes of colourful wildflowers, before emerging upon a hard hewn, rocky sliver of coast—filled with tales of smugglers and U-boats. At the end of your walk there’s the Hunters Inn—great for refreshment.

Baggy Point

This is a beautiful family walk, high above white breakers on Croyde’s headland. There’s preserved whale bones and an old wreck post to spot amongst other things. The views on this walk are epic, reaching over ocean expanses towards Bideford Bay and Hartland.

Wistlandpound Reservoir Circular

Only a short drive from Hele Valley on the fringes of Exmoor is Wistlandpound Reservoir—a pretty, deep blue lake, enclosed by whispering pines. It's an easy circular family trail with lots of nature. There are plenty of picnic tables to stop for a rest on your way round and the terrain is flat. However, still bring appropriate footwear.
