Step off the beaten track
One thing we’re certainly not short of in North Devon is walks. Whether you want to stroll along a beach, explore ancient woods or hike the South West Coastal Path, there are limitless opportunities to embrace the outdoors. And of course, a good walk deserves a good pub lunch – or at least a slice of cake! Here at Hele Valley, we’re all very well placed to advise on such things…
Let's go surfing
Whether you’re a seasoned pro or an absolute beginner body boarder, the warmer seas at this time of year make September a great month for a fun surf. Add in more reliable swells and the fact that the surf schools and hire shops are quieter, surfing in September in North Devon can be a much more satisfying experience than at the height of summer. And if surfing isn’t your bag, there’s always Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Sea Kayaking or maybe just a good old fashioned splash about in the shallows. Remember to roll up those trouser legs!
As the nights start to draw in it’s easy to get disheartened. But we like to look on the bright side – many more stars to see earlier in the evening. With very little light pollution in North Devon and the super dark skies on Exmoor just a short drive away, there are lots of places to sit and stare at the stars. Our favourite spot will always be by the sea on a darkened beach with the waves lapping at the shore the only sound…bliss.
Anyone would think it’s almost Autumn…
Whether it’s from the private decking of your lodge or glamping pod, or fireside at one of the many country pubs in North Devon, September is the perfect month to catch those last rays of low-slung sunshine with a glass of something nice and your favourite people by your side. Crack out the board games, bring on the books, and get comfy, because autumn is coming and the snuggle is real…
