Hele Valley and North Devon is a brilliant place to bring the children away for an action packed holiday! From adventure activities, to lazy days on the beach, all the family will be able to relax and enjoy their time in North Devon. There are plenty of attractions to visit and things to do to entertain all ages. Here we have hand picked a few things for you to do on your visit to North Devon.

Dotto Train - 0.5 miles

The Dotto Train runs around the town from 10am to 5pm some weekends and summer holidays no timetable as it depends on how long it takes to go through the high street, starting at Hillsborough Car Park down Portland Street, through High Street, Church Street, Wilder Road, St James Place to The Pier and returning via The Cove back to Hillsborough.

Chambercombe Manor - 1 mile

The Chambercombe Manor is the most unique and intriguing property, steeped in history and legend is mentioned in the Domesday book.

Chambercombe Manor was owned by the Champernon family from around 1162. In the early 16th century it became the property of Henry Duke of Suffolk father of the ill fated Lady Jane Grey.

You can have take a tour and experience the spooky feel of the manor and then chat about how the manor made you feel over a traditional Devon cream tea.

Sea Safari - 1.5 miles

Based at Ilfracombe pier, the passenger boat trips depart daily from February through to October.  They run two ten meter Humbers, the "Voyager" and the "Lundy Explorer".  They will take you at speeds up to 20 knots along the coast in complete comfort in search of Dolphins, Porpoises and Seals all with the amazing backdrop of the North Devon Coast.

Bicclescombe Park - 2 miles

A wonderful day can be had at Ilfracombe's hidden treasure of a Park.  This Park features a modern and regularly updated play area for the children, a tennis club with coaches on hand and two large courts, you can have a snack or drink at the Mill Tea Rooms, sitting inside or out by the babbling stream.  The Park has fantastic scenery, the floral displays alone are magnificent through the summer,  if you visit on a Sunday during the summer, the Park will be alive with children playing, Sunday tennis, dog walkers, remote control boats in the old boating lake and people just strolling or sitting enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

Keypitts Quad Biking - 2.5 miles

Enjoy a few hours of adventure at Keypitts quad biking centre, they say "the wetter the better".  The highly experienced instructors will help riders of six and up have a fantastic, thrilling ride.  Free wellies and helmets are available to use and if you have forgotten your waterproofs, you can purchase them here on the day.

Woolacombe Sheepdog and Falconry Displays - 5 miles

The Borough Farm Sheepdog and Falconry displays will be starting on May 27th at Borough Farm in North Devon, near Woolacombe and Mortehoe. They will continue each Wednesday evening until September 2nd. The sheepdog show will be performed by David Kennard, and for the falconry display by Exmoor falconer George Pile, with his array of Hawks, Owls and Kestrels. Displays will take place every Wednesday evenings at 6pm and are a real treat for the eye.

Enjoy this beautiful house and gardens.  The house is filled with wonderful collections amassed by the Chichester family over 11 generations.  This really is a wonderful day out for all the family.  If history isn't your interest, you can enjoy the wonderful walks around the estate or learn about the maintenance of the beautiful carriages in the carriage museum.  After all this you can enjoy a snack or meal

This lovely zoo participates in over 35 International, European and National animal breeding programmes and conservation and education are of paramount importance to them. It really is well worth a visit, during the summer there are activities every 30 minutes including Otter feeding, Wallaby feed & petting, Monster Creepy Crawlies and Meercats & Others. The very well informed keepers will give you a guided tour and talk.

Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway - 17 miles

Visit Lynton and Lynmouth and not only enjoy a wonderful day in two of North Devon's most beautiful villages, but also take a ride on the famous cliff railway.  Take a ride to the top and before your descent enjoy lunch or a cream tea at the Cliff Top Cafe.  While you are visiting this area, we also highly recommend visiting The Valley of the Rocks, an outstandingly beautiful site that is ideal for children to explore and climb, you will probably even bump into a couple of goats during your visit, when you drive into the valley, you will think you have driving into a Harry Potter scene, it really is unusual and beautiful.

Biggest all weather attraction in North Devon. Excellent live birds of prey shows, five major rides, huge indoor soft play area with death slides and ball pits and separate new play area specifically for babies to pre-schoolers. Gnome Reserve - 33 miles

If you don't take yourself too seriously, we can highly recommend this for a day out.  Everyone can have a loan of a gnome hat and a fishing rod so that you don't embarrass the gnomes in their natural habitat. The gnomes home is set in four acres of rural woodland that benefits from over 250 labelled species of wild flower, grasses, ferns and herbs. You take take some wonderfully embarrassing photos for the the family album while spotting the 1000 plus gnomes going about their everyday lives.
