May Day Celebrations - 1st May 2018

  • The May Day festivities mark the celebration of the arrival of Summer and the beginning of the new holiday season. Once at the Clapping Circle 'Jack-in-the Green' will be stripped of his leafy coverings to release the 'Spirit of Summer'. All are welcome to join in the parade and the stripping of Jack. If possible wear something green.

    There will be free workshops earlier in the year at Pip & Jim's Community Hall for anyone who wishes to get properly into the spirit of Mayday – mask making and bunting giants.

The Scrumpy Run - 13th May 2018

The Scrumpy Run is organised by the Vintage Motor Cycle Club - Devon Section when some 40 or so riders set off at 11am following a suggested route over Exmoor to a lunch time stop before returning to Ilfracombe for the presentation of prizes.  read more...

  • The Beautiful town of Ilfracombe once again offers you a warm welcome to our open house art event. Artists and crafts people open their homes, studios and galleries for you to view and purchase a varied collection of arts and crafts.Take part in free workshops, visit open gardens and listen to live music.All this while also enjoying Ilfracombe's breathtaking views, delightful parks, cafe's, galleries, restaurants and pubs.

Forces March - 23rd May 2018

Starting from Ilfracombe Seafront at 10am on Wednesday 23rd May, sponsored walkers and runners will make their way along the 135+ mile route over 5, one-day stages. The undulating all-road route begins here in Ilfracombe and passes through glorious countryside in Exmoor, the Quantock Hills, rural Somerset and much of Salisbury Plain before finishing in Bulford, Wiltshire. Each stage will be at least 26.2 miles in length – that's five full marathons in five days! Grand Victorian & Steampunk Festival - 9th-17th June 2018

Coordinated by a group of volunteers who enjoy re-enacting the Victorian Age, in costume, dance, song and spectacle. Fundraising throughout the year to produce a programme with a little bit of everything from the sublime to the unusual, from Bathing Belles to a Celebration Ball, Grand Parades and Tea Parties.The final weekend welcomes Steampunks from near and far to join in the celebrations with a more fun and unusual twist focusing on the historical elements of Science Fiction. With live music, tea duelling, fireworks and more all against the stunning Victorian backdrop of Ilfracombe Town. Young or old Ilfracombe Victorian Week is a celebration to participate and enjoy.

North Devon Street Food Awards - 7th July 2018

  • Street Food Vendors from around the region competed for cash prizes and individually hand crafted trophies called Maurice's from local glass crafters Shoreline Glass. All sorts of cuisines are represented at this event including hot dogs, BBQ, Thai, Mexican, seafood, Caribbean, French pot and much more. Bar facilities were provided once again on the seafront by Ilfracombe craft brewers Wizard Brewery who sold a range of real ales, ciders, wines etc.

    The 2018 event will be held in July on Ilfracombe Seafront and this year there is a new  category -  BEST DRINK.  This could be any hot or cold drink.

All Things Morris - 7th-8th July 2018

This is the sixth annual Ilfracombe All Things Morris event and there will be plenty of Morris Activity to see and do over the weekend.
Each day of the weekend has a major event and there will also be other themed events taking place around the town. On both Saturday and Sunday there will be Morris dancing around the seafront and harbour from Morris sides who are visiting not just from around the area but from across the UK.

Green Man Day - Pilton Barnstaple - Saturday 21st July 2018

Green Man Day or Pilton Festival is a celebration every July with a play in which the Green Man, as ancient pagan fertility figure, meets the Prior and is subsequently incorporated into the Christian church. It’s  revival of an ancient fair with its origins in medieval times. The day starts with the Festival Parade across the river in Barnstaple, which makes its way into the village by about 11.45. Expect musicians, drumming, fancy dress and a Town Crier. This is followed by the Green Man play, which is known as the Festival Pageant,on the lawns at Pilton House. There are stalls and entertainments in the streets and a flower festival in the church. read more...

Devon Street Food Festival - August 2018

  •  Ilfracombe Street Food Festival will run in  August and will showcase a variety of remarkable food traders with cuisines from all over the world. From gourmet seafood and tantalizing burgers to award winning local produce, there will be plenty to tickle your taste buds. If you love fresh produce, quality brews and artisan eats, you better add Ilfracombe Food Festival to your calendar.
    Viva La Toastie, Seasonal Samosas, Pakora Pod, Grub Shed and are amongst some of the marvellous street food vendors joining us this year, with many more to still be announced! Visitors will discover and taste a range of exciting produce from all over the world.

    A fully licensed bar will be offering lagers, craft beers and cocktails. For those driving, low ABV lagers and mocktails will also be available ensuring visitors don't miss out the opportunity to taste the variety of food on offer with a refreshingly cold beverage.

    Three days of glorious food, drink and music by the beach, and what's more, entry is free! So no excuses! Calling all friends, family and four legged friends – everyone is welcome!

South West Birdman - 11th August 2018

The South West Birdman Competition sees crazy aviators and would-be pilots hurl themselves off Ilfracombe Pier into the icy waters below - all hoping to "fly" the furthest and be crowned champion of the event.

  • Organised by registered charity Ilfracombe Round Table, the day-long event attracts thousands of people to the town and raises money for local worthy causes.

    As well as the main flying event, the South West Birdman Competition will also play host to a day long music festival, food stalls, an ale and cider festival, artisan market and children's entertainment

    This year there is even a Pimms and Prosecco tent manned by those kind folks at One Ilfracombe.

    The event also includes a live music stage with great music throughout the day, children's entertainment, a bar and barbecue, food stalls, Artisan Market and much more besides.

Sea Ilfracombe Maritime Festival - 1st-2nd September 2018

Sea Ilfracombe Maritime Festival is an annual celebration of Ilfracombe's unique character and coastal life!

There's plenty of family fun with street entertainers and a hive of harbour activities including sailing lessons with Y-Sail (Yacht Club), historic lifeboat trips on Hampshire Rose, fishing from the pier with Combe Martin Sea Angling Club and a crabbing competition (with prizes!)
Entry is free and this year's festival kicks off on Friday 1st September through to the Sunday evening. read more...

Ilfracombe Bike Show - 8th September

The North Devon Motorcycle Action group held this popular event which is staged along the front near the Landmark Theatre.  Motorcyclists travelled from near and far. Some local, some from as far as Coventry. Over 250 motorcycles lined the promenade and competed for 9 hand crafted glass trophies made by Dartington Crystal. There were bikes and trikes of all shapes and sizes and stalls promoting various aspects of road use and of the chosen charities that the Motorcycle Action Group are supporting this year. Two bands," Bubinga" and "the Rough Necks" played an open air gig during the afternoon to entertain the crowds.
This event is open to all riders but also open to the general public who were invited to judge for a public choice trophy winner. read more...
